Senegal is one of the most affected countries in the world by plastic production and consumption. The lack of plastic and waste management is a national issue that extends further than a single designers reach. However, from an individual standpoint there's way to tackle this issue, if not to fully fix it, to give it visibility

KABETUL. Plastics recycling workshop.

Dexde (Design x Development) and the designer Luisa Tovar Méndez came together to produce a plastic recycling workshop. This initiative involved partnering and developing KABETUL, a workgroup composed of individuals with functional diversity, to create jewelry and furniture. Using HDPE, LDPE, and PP the project combats Senegal's unemployment issue as well as waste management. (futurematerialsbank, 2022)
