Coffee grounds
Ukraine
- Type of waste
- agricultural
In Ukraine, coffee grounds are primarily generated by a growing network of urban cafés and restaurants, especially in larger cities like Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa. As coffee culture becomes more embedded in daily life, the volume of spent grounds increases daily. Typically discarded as organic waste, coffee grounds are rich in nutrients and aromatic oils, yet remain largely underutilized. Despite their potential, centralized systems for their reuse are still limited.
Ochis Eye Wear
Maksym Havrylenko founded Ochis Eyewear driven by his desire to create an innovative and sustainable product, addressing the issue of waste and plastic pollution. The current manufacturing process involves collecting and preparing the grounds, mixing them with biopolymers and flax, molding and pressing the frames, and final finishing, resulting in durable and coffee-scented glasses. Ochis Eyewear has been developing this project since 2018.
