In Oporto, it’s impossible to walk along most streets without seeing one café, it's café culture is stronger than it's coffee. Oporto’s Ribeira historic area have plenty of cafés to sit and talk. But what comes with coffee? Coffee waste.

Barro de café

The Barro de Café project reuses coffee grounds to create a sustainable ceramic material. By mixing the grounds with clay and water, a paste is obtained that, when fired, produces lightweight and porous ceramic. Although more fragile than conventional ceramic, its strength has been improved through structural design techniques.
